Jimmy Buffett is well known for his amazing live performances, but his latest concert tour - "Welcome to Fin Land" - is a relief to many of his fans. In January of 2011, Jimmy Buffett was playing a concert in Sydney, Australia when, at the end of an encore, he took one step too many at the edge of the stage and fell. Fortunately, he received only a deep cut on his head and was released from the hospital the next day. When tour dates were announced for Jimmy Buffett's latest concert, fans were both excited and relieved that the accident hadn't cut short a long and illustrious concert career. Tour dates for the 2011 tour begin in mid-April in Jimmy Buffet's home-away-from-home of Florida and meander throughout the East and Gulf Coasts. While the tour won't travel anywhere west of Texas, there will be a concert date in Toronto in July and the tour dates will end in Paris on September 26th. Fans can expect the quintessential Jimmy Buffett experience that will hopefully end in Jimmy taking the stairs.
The countless hit songs of Jimmy Buffett invoke tropical scenes of pristine beaches, smooth white sand, and a bucket of beers. His music has become infamous for its laid-back melodies and witty observational humor that has been satisfying the droves of "Parrotheads" around the world. Mr. Buffett also puts on an amazing concert tour every few years or so, with sets of crowd favorites lasting up to thirty songs that contain the same energy and passion that Jimmy had when he started playing.
A southern boy from Alabama, Jimmy Buffett started his career as a country artist in the late 60's. It was only when a friend took him busking for tourists in Key West that he began to develop his laid-back style, eventually moving to the Florida coastal community. It was here that Jimmy created a combination of country, surfer, and tropical music - eventually known as "Gulf Western" - that he has become infamous for. This new musical style shone through on Buffett's third album A White Sport Coat & A Pink Crustacean. Jimmy Buffett's popularity exploded with the release of Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes in 1977, which featured the hit that Jimmy Buffet is remembered for (and is played at every tour date), even after all these years: "Margaritaville".
Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes was followed up by Son of a Sailor - featuring "Cheeseburger in Paradise" - and Jimmy Buffett continued to make hit records throughout the 80's. However, his main concentration during this time was on his live performances, perfecting concert tours that fulfilled Parrothead expectations. Even with Jimmy's extensive list of songs, he has always attempted to play his most popular classics (known as the Big 8) and to appeal to a diversely aged audience. Apart from his music, his witty banter with the audience and locale themed skits have also become a favorite aspect of Jimmy Buffett tour dates, and fans can expect to hear Jimmy cover a classic from time to time. The general aim of all Jimmy Buffet concert dates is the attitude that he brings to all his endeavors: to give the crowd what they love while still shaking them up.
